Call for Presentations, Fall 2018

BCSSA Fall Conference 2018
Supporting Well being in Schools
Thursday, November 8 and Friday, November 9, 2018
Westin Bayshore Vancouver

The BC school system is one of the highest performing in the world, with many jurisdictions around the world showing interest in what we are accomplishing. One of our greatest areas of strengths has been the intentional work we have done over many years in the areas of social responsibility and social emotional learning. With the redesigned curriculum being focussed on developing students’ Core Competencies, we are paying even greater attention to supporting wellbeing in our school communities as we know that this is the foundation for successful learning.

As we engage in the work of transforming learning, we are aware of the personal wellness challenges being experienced by our students and staff. How we learn about and provide supports for wellbeing is a vital component of the learning transformation process. It is crucial that we share our journeys – both the struggles and the accomplishments. The BCSSA recognizes that a great deal of innovative work is happening within the province and we would like to provide an opportunity to showcase these achievements at our 2018 Fall Conference this November.

We are, therefore, asking school districts to share their most innovative and engaging practices with their colleagues, so that we can continue to highlight and spread these most promising practices across our system.

Context

The BCSSA 2018 Fall Conference at the Westin Bayshore Vancouver will have an audience of approximately 500-600 participants, including board of education trustees, superintendents, district staff, principals, vice-principals, teachers, parents, students, and ministry staff.

Format

This will be a 70-minute concurrent session that will take place on either Thursday, November 8 or Friday, November 9. You may wish to provide an opportunity for audience discussion and engagement during the presentation. You can expect an audience of 30 – 100 people. These sessions will not be pre-registered, so the audience size is an estimate only.

A host will be assigned to each breakout session to introduce the presenter(s). You will also be provided a projector, screen and speakers.
