BCSSA New Member and Newly Appointed Superintendent Sessions at the Summer Leadership Academy 2022

New BCSSA Member Session:  Leading Learning for Everyone

Wednesday, August 17th at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler
The session runs from 8:30am to 3:30pm with breakfast served at 8am

The session will focus on the ethical and professional responsibilities of district leaders to support equitable, inclusive, and quality learning for all adults and students. Participants will have the opportunity to reflect on personal and professional values and how they connect with their professional responsibilities as a district leader. There will also be opportunities to engage in conversations about fostering trust, relationships, collaboration, and curiousity to nurture wellbeing and learning.

Lynn Archer has most recently worked as Assistant Superintendent in Richmond SD38. Responsibilities included Assessment, Inquiry, Framework for Enhancing Student Learning, Literacy, Early Learning, French Immersion/Montessori, and International Education. Lynn previously worked in Burnaby as a Director of Instruction and School Principal and started her career in Surrey as a secondary teacher and Helping Teacher for English Language Arts/Assessment K-12.
She has served on the BCSSA and Metro Vancouver Professional Learning committees. Lynn has been involved in many interesting curriculum and assessment projects with the Ministry of Education.

This session is open to new BCSSA members (within their first two years).  There is no fee, but registration is required.

What can you expect when you attend the Summer Leadership Academy?

We will be focussing on four major themes:  Leadership; Partnerships; Collaboration; Organization;  all under the umbrella of “Embracing the Opportunities Ahead”

Exploring the unique opportunities and expectations of your new role, and gaining a deeper appreciation of the impact and responsibilities you now have as the superintendent.

Effective strategies and structures to support you and the Board of Education as you develop and nurture your working relationships with your new Board.

Reviewing  the organizational structures of your district and exploring ways to build capacity , collaboration and supports with your new “team”.

Planning and organizing for the year(s) ahead with a focus on tried and tested tools such as: Superintendent’s Work Plan; Board Planning Agenda; Operational Plans, etc.
