2022 BCSSA Mentor Application
Applicants wishing to be considered for a Mentorship position must complete the form below to provide evidence of qualifications, professional learning, and/or experience that demonstrates exemplary practice and depth of knowledge in the practices of coaching/mentorship.
Each Mentorship contract will be for two years, with an optional additional year if required to complete the 2-year experience for the Mentee. Applicants wishing to continue serving in a Mentorship role will be required to re-apply after the first contract has been completed. To accommodate replenishing the Mentorship list, the Association has established contract limits of 5 years for each Mentor (these limits may be revised under special circumstances).

- Hold formal post-secondary credentials in coaching and/or mentorship
- Adhere to the ICF Core Competencies in their work as coach/mentor
- Possess and demonstrate positive coaching and listening skills
- Have deep knowledge and understanding of the BCSSA Leadership Competencies Framework
- Support Mentees in coming to their own solutions
- Take a personal interest in and are committed to the Mentor/Mentee relationship
- Appreciate diversity and different points of view
- Focus on equity-based leadership
- Participate in and value ongoing growth and professional learning
- Provide guidance and constructive feedback
- Are non-judgmental and inclusive
- Demonstrate a commitment to Truth and Reconciliation
- Are collaborative
- Are future-oriented
- Maintain confidentiality
Expectations: Successful candidates will be expected to…
- Attend and participate in 3 New Member sessions per year (typically April, August, and November)
- Attend a yearly orientation prior to September
- Remain current in BC education governance, policy, and trends
- Participate in a minimum of 3 meetings throughout the year for planning purposes
- Maintain regular monthly contact with their Mentees
- Be available to their Mentee when needed
- Submit expenses and professional fees on a quarterly basis, briefly summarizing the types of issues and support provided
- Liaise on a regular basis with the Membership Consultant
- Be aware of, and avoid possible conflict of interest situations
- Be willing to sign a confidentiality agreement with BCSSA
- Agree to participate in professional learning for coaching offered by BCSSA
